The series is based on the moment of archaeological discovery — the instant when an object begins to emerge from the soil, while its origin and significance yet remains unknown. This precise moment between mystery and revelation became the main idea of the entire project.
The vases remain intentionally shrouded in a layer of clay, as if freshly unearthed from an archaeological site. Their true form remains hidden, leaving the viewer to imagine what lies beneath the surface. The objects thus evoke curiosity and a natural desire to uncover their story, while simultaneously reminding us that some mysteries remain forever unrevealed.
Here, the earthen layer is not merely a trace of time but becomes an integral part of the object itself. What is typically perceived as an obstacle transforms into an essential element of the work, shaping the way we interpret it.
The project loosely follows Catastrophe, a series created in 2007 for Mint Gallery in London. One of the objects from the series was later included in the exhibition Telling Tales at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
