Loomo

The Loomo light inter­prets tex­tile crafts­man­ship through light, evok­ing the struc­ture of woven fab­ric. Its cir­cu­lar glass pan­el is designed to form a bun­dle of fine tex­tiles whose pat­tern has been imprint­ed direct­ly into the glass – as if the fab­ric had under­gone a process of fos­siliza­tion. Light then refracts with­in this very struc­ture, spread­ing even­ly and soft­ly, with­out harsh shadows.

The result is an imprint in clear glass: a kind of trans­par­ent fos­sil of a soft mate­r­i­al, cap­tur­ing the tex­tile grid with almost archae­o­log­i­cal pre­ci­sion. Where tex­tile is nor­mal­ly per­ceived as fleet­ing and frag­ile, here it remains imprint­ed per­ma­nent­ly, in a mate­r­i­al that has no soft­ness of its own.

The gold­en hue of the glass accen­tu­ates the cir­cu­lar shape of the light, while its glow envelops the inte­ri­or in a soft, ambi­ent radi­ance that com­ple­ments both con­tem­po­rary min­i­mal­ist and more eclec­tic, rich­ly lay­ered interiors.
