The Iceberg

The Iceberg instal­la­tion was custom-designed for the entrance hall of the Bořislavka Centrum office build­ing, the head­quar­ters of KKCG com­pa­ny, in Prague, Czech repub­lic. Spanning an area of​near­ly 500 m², it ranks among Lasvit’s largest projects in Europe.

The work con­sists of 120 pan­els of flat fused glass set with­in an undu­lat­ing wood­en grid. Each glass ele­ment is unique, dif­fer­ing in shape, size, and the pat­tern cre­at­ed by man­u­al­ly sculpt­ing fine glass­mak­ing sand pri­or to the fus­ing process. Production employs tra­di­tion­al glass-fusing tech­nol­o­gy, enabling the cre­ation of large-format glass sur­faces with dis­tinc­tive tex­tures and patterns.

The indi­vid­ual pan­els grad­u­al­ly illu­mi­nate and fade, giv­ing the instal­la­tion a sense of con­stant move­ment while evok­ing the slow, ever-changing nature of an icy land­scape. As the appear­ance of the glac­i­er con­tin­u­ous­ly shifts, so too does the atmos­phere of the entire entrance space.

The design respects the build­ing’s archi­tec­ture and becomes an inte­gral part of it. Rather than being a stand­alone object insert­ed into the space, the instal­la­tion is ful­ly inte­grat­ed with the archi­tec­ture, con­tribut­ing to the char­ac­ter of the entrance lobby.
